A movie review and commentary...

So, I'm back for an update - and typing with two hands. YAY!!!

Last night, I got to see Waitress. Yes, I'm horribly behind on movies. I don't see them till they hit the DVD rack, or I can download them via Amazon to Tivo. BUT, I do see them. ;)

Two big thumbs up for Waitress. I had no idea Keri Russell could act this well. It was fantastic... because... it totally nailed the way a mother feels when she sees her baby for the first time. I won't give too much away except to say they got that right. And it's a unique movie that can make that moment the climax of the film.

I'll offer a caveat to say that I did not, actually, feel very much at all after the birth of my first baby, not because I didn't adore her, but because I was so very exhausted and in such terrible pain I couldn't connect with anything except the beautiful realization that it was all over! Of course, now I love her dearly. ;)

And while we're on the subject of childbirth... in reading about Heath Ledger (so, so sad) I saw that the bottle of sleeping pills he had was Ambien. Let me tell you a little about Ambien. They gave me one of these when I showed up at triage, in labor with my new little Mystery Man. They said I was oh so very mistaken, and not in labor at all, just take this pill and come back in the morning. You might be in labor then. I had the baby 6 hours later. But I digress.

This pill was so powerful that in the middle of full blown labor, I kept falling asleep between contractions. For thirty seconds at a time. Then I'd wake up screaming. I have really no idea of what happened during labor - the timeline is all crazy. It's like there are all these ellipses in the middle. I mention this to just say that it's one powerful drug. I can't imagine what would have happened if I'd taken one extra. Be careful with that stuff people! I'll never, ever take one again. (And I'm typically not sensitive to sleeping meds, also. I can take Nyquil and stay up all night)

And that concludes this public service announcement!!

Yikes, that sounds awful. I'm surprised they gave such a powerful drug to a pregnant woman.

I had two months of preterm labor, then they had to induce. Go figure!

Oh my goodness. Sleeping for thirty minutes in labor? I remember falling asleep for maybe a minute or so, but that is a long time!

What a crazy/horrible experience! I do not think I would handle a drug like that very well.

I really loved Waitress. Glad you liked it too!
